Ceililo Falls

On my way to Portland I passed through The Dalles and through an old memory of Celilo Falls.  Celilo Falls means “Echo of Falling Water”.  The echo is no more, but when I was 10 my parents traveled to The Dalles to see the falls before The Dalles Dam covered them.  There were three, but I barely remember them.  I was more impressed by the native fishing platforms…the way Native American men leaned off the flimsy wooden structures to spear or dip net salmon.  The falls are gone, but the Native Americans still come to net salmon for sustenance and ceremony.  This trip I looked for the platforms.....and a 50 year old memory.
